Student comments from Fall 2011 survey evaluations
- All mentor sessions provided a comfortable environment where we were all able to discuss and actively participate in discussions about the course material.
- Mentor was very active and passionate about her role and responsibilities. Helped everyone engage in assignments and worked through problems with us on an individual basis. She provided a lot of support for the students.
- The most helpful for me in the mentor section is going over the texts we have read and understanding how to used them in a piece of writing. She was very good at helping us analyze the reading material to fit the writing prompts that were assigned to us.
- She created a comfortable learning environment in which questions and comments were encouraged.
- The availability of the mentor, both during sessions and outside of class (via email).
- The ability to work hands-on with my fellow students.
- Talking about the essays. I found that these discussions helped when I sat down to write my essays. Discussion of the main class assignments helped me cement my own ideas.
- Providing tools for generating ideas for our assignments and allowing each session to be independent with respect to the help she provided us.
- The mentor has been available to us. The great thing about mentors (ours included) is the in between purpose they serve; they're not faculty, not peers, but something in between.
